Creating a tool that delivers value and drives conversions

OnCenter Software needed a downloadable desktop application that offered real value to construction estimators while serving as a marketing lead funnel. The project required building an easy-to-use app that housed worksheets and PDF templates, helping estimators work more efficiently. At the same time, it needed to support ongoing marketing efforts through a dynamic, update-friendly backend. The challenge was developing a cross-platform solution that could be easily refreshed by the marketing team without engineering support.

Building smart delivery into a simple interface

I used Xojo to develop a cross-platform application that allowed both Windows and Mac users to benefit from the toolkit. The design and interface were created in Photoshop to ensure visual clarity and brand alignment. At the heart of the tool was an auto-update feature that checked a server for new content and refreshed the local app accordingly—requiring no action from the end user. This functionality allowed marketers to continually add or update resources without redeployment.

To bring the Estimators Tool Kit to life, I began by building a custom installer tailored to reflect OnCenter Software’s branding and user experience standards. The installer served as the first point of engagement, designed to be fast, intuitive, and platform-aware. From there, I developed the application itself in Xojo, leveraging its cross-platform capabilities and native OS integration hooks. This allowed me to create a lightweight but robust desktop tool that could interact with the file system, detect server-side updates, and dynamically pull in new content. By tapping into Xojo’s event-driven architecture and file handling features, I engineered a seamless workflow that felt native to the end user while maintaining full control over content delivery behind the scenes.
